Gum Recession Treatment

[00:00:00.23] - Dr. Fadi Hasan What is gum recession? Gum recession, our goal is to reestablish normal, healthy gum levels, where they used to be before. What causes a lot of the gum recession could be a history potentially of aggressive brushing habits, orthodontic therapy. Our goal as periodontists is that what can we do to help our patients reestablish things back to where they were originally? A lot of our patients complain from either esthetic concerns, sensitivity, which is really, really common, and also sometimes they need other future orthodontic work or even restorative work. We do love to show our patients where we really document our procedures, surgical videos, and even through dental photography, to show them the before and after of these procedures, and that way they can appreciate what we were able to achieve for them. Most of our patients, their tissue is really thin and frail. By thickening the tissue, it allows you to create a natural, physical, and biological barrier that prevents bacteria from going straight to the bone and to the root structure. It's a great way for our patients to help really strengthen their foundation around their teeth, so we don't end up, hopefully, in other future complications down the road.
